Yamir Chapman
Yamir Chapman is a native of Trenton, New Jersey, and a soon-to-be graduate of the University of Richmond, where he will earn a Bachelor of Arts, double majoring in Leadership Studies and Psychology with a minor in Sociology.
During his time at Richmond, Yamir has excelled in his coursework and studied abroad in Berlin, Germany, and Perugia, Italy. He has also completed a European concert tour with his choir to Dublin, Ireland, and, as the Chaplain of the Black Awakening Choir at VCU, he has traveled to churches throughout Virginia and along the East Coast.
An advocate for social change, Yamir has served on the President’s Student Advisory Board, as a student representative for the Board of Trustees, and as the treasurer for The Black Student Alliance. He is also a Race and Racism research fellow and an International Gilman Scholar.
Yamir has completed internships throughout Richmond, serving as a Policy Analyst for the United Network for Organ Sharing, where he supported the Minority Affairs Committee, the Living Donor Committee, and the Ethics Committee. He has also worked as the Economic Justice Intern with the local nonprofit GoochlandCares, supporting their registration office, emergency repair team, and front desk staff.
Currently, Yamir works as an admissions tour guide for the University of Richmond, a house coordinator for Delivering HOPE RVA, a substance-free recovery home, and is the proud CEO and co-founder of Checkpoint Studios LLC, the parent company of The Checkpoint Podcast.
Yamir proudly serves as the Chaplain of the National Baptist Deacons Convention Young Adult Department and prays for continued guidance for himself and those he serves.
Excited for the future, Yamir will be pursuing a Master’s in Clinical Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University while continuing to advance both his musical and business endeavors.
